Truman Lake Fishing Report

Fishing Report 10-31-2018

By Steve Blake

Happy Halloween!

Current water level on Truman is 708 and water surface temp is 60 degrees.

With the cooler water temps and the days getting shorter fishing patterns are changing almost daily as the fish get closer to their late fall and winter patterns.

On the lower lake near the dam many crappie are already on their winter pattern on the bluffs. We took three limits of decent size crappie 10 to 12 inches this week fishing a 1/4 ounce pink Bob Bates winter special jig head tipped with a Char and white SWARM jig. Took us just over 3 hours to limit out fishing the jig a foot off the bottom in 16 to 20 feet of water paralleling bluffs on the lower main lake. Bites were VERY SOFT so you have to be ready. We used 9 foot BPS Crappie Max rods spooled with 8# test Berkley Big Game moss green line my favorite for the winter pattern. This combo is super sensitive!!!!!!

As they continue to run water daily at the dam the white bass and hybrids are still good on the weir fishing spoons and sassy shads just off the bottom on the front drop of the weir in 15 to 18 feet of water. Early and late in the day have been the best bite. Also still catching some shallow fish on Pop R's and in line spinners on rocky wind blown points. This bite should get better shallow as they get the lake closer to normal pool.

Large mouth still good on spinner baits and buzz-baits in the back half of the creeks and coves.

Cats of all sizes still good on cut shad drifting main lake flats in 8 to 15 feet of water. Fish from 3 to 8 pounds common with an occasional 30 plus coming in.

Well that's it for this week see ya on the lake!!!!
