Truman Lake Fishing Report

Fishing Report 4-27-2017

By Steve Blake

Current water level is 710.14 and rising. Water surface temp at the dam is 63 degrees.

Well it has been a great week for fishing that is when the weather has allowed. We have had limits of nice 10 to 14 inch crappie every day we have been out this week. The white bass and hybrids have started to show up. Black bass fishing has improved as the water rises and they move into the flooded bushes and grass in the backs of the creeks and coves. Channel cats are spawning up the creeks , and the juggers are catching lots of blue cats.

Crappie are 90 per cent done spawning and have moved out to the timber and brush piles in water that is 10 to 15 feet deep and are coming on minnows fished 6 to 8 feet deep. The average size of the crappie this season seems to have improved. THE SUMMER PATTERN BITE IS ON ALL OVER THE LAKE AND SHOULD CONTINUE FOR SOME TIME.

We have been able to find large schools of white bass that are beginning to spawn on the humps and current breaks in 8 to 15 feet of water fishing jigging spoons on the bottom. They are not everywhere but when you find them they are stacked up in huge schools. This bite should last as long as we have current going thru the dam so with the rainfall that is predicted for the next week or so and the rising lake levels I would say at least another two weeks or so. THERE HAVE BEEN SOME NICE HYBRIDS MIXED IN WITH THE WHITE BASS.

Large mouth bass have begun moving into the flooded bushes and vegetation in the backs of the creeks and coves. Top-waters like the Pop R, buzz-baits, and spinner baits chartreuse and white in color, and plastic frogs fished in the thick stuff are all good bets for the bass.

The channel cats are on the spawn and are best on shrimp way up the creeks where they are actually in the banks in the deep holes that are 4 to 8 feet deep. Most fish are 2 to 3 pounds.

The guys that are running jugs baited with cut shad are catching blue cats in the 3 to 30 pound size range. Best areas have been the flats at the mouths of the coves.

See ya on the water!!!!
