Truman Lake Fishing Report

Fishing Report - 5-1-2018

By Steve Blake

Current water level is 706.11 and water surface temp at the dam is 55 degrees.

While surface temp at the dam is 55 in most coves and creeks off the main lake it is 58 to as high as 65 degrees, and with temps in the high 70's this week will climb higher each day.

That being said every fish in the lake is looking to spawn or has already started. Getting reports from all over Truman of crappie on the banks, and lots of 11 to 15 inch fish being taken with the average crappie running 10 to 12 inches. The steeper rocky banks have been best, just can't seem to find good concentrations on the flatter banks. Jigs or minnows working equally well. Fish are 2 to 3 feet deep in 2 to 4 feet of water. It is as hot as it will get right now for spawning crappie in the Sterett Creek area.~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The bass have also move shallow and are being caught in two to six feet of water on a variety of baits. Spinnerbaits, swim baits, jig and pig, and squarebill crank baits are all producing. Backs of creeks and coves have been best.

Seeing lots of channel cats in shallow water 2 to 5 feet deep half way to all the way back on worms and shrimp. Blues have still been deep 20 to 40 feet with cuts shad in the dam area really producing well.

A few walleye being taken on the lower Pomme and Osage arms casting crawfish colored crank baits on main lake and secondary points.

Whites and hybrids have been good on the extreme upper end of Truman in the rivers on in line spinners and rattle traps. We are still a couple weeks away from them spawning on the humps and roadbeds on the lower lake.

This week will be the peak of the crappie spawn in the Sterett Creek Area so come on down and get in on some hot crappie action.!!!!!!!!!!!!

See ya on the lake!!!!
