Truman Lake Fishing Report

Fishing Report 5-30-2018

By Steve Blake

Current water level is 710.40 and water surface temp on Truman is 83 degrees.

They caught the water level yesterday and the lake is now on a slow fall with the corps running water at the dam. That means current has been created in all areas of Truman, and the bite is on!!!!!

The crappie bite is great on several different patterns from fishing current breaks like main lake points, to hitting the brush piles, to long poling the timbered flats. Both minnows, and SWARM JIGS in pink and white or blue and white are working well. In the clearer water near the dam crappie are down 10 to 15 feet, while in the mid lake areas where the water is stained fish are 4 to 8 feet deep.

On the very upper ends of the lake the water is very stained, but the blue cat bite has been great in the more stained water with fish from 3 to 30 pounds plus being caught on cut shad in good numbers.

With the falling water and current white bass and hybrids have moved to the humps in a big way. $ inch white sassy shads on a 3/4 ounce head slow rolled, and live shad are both producing whites and hybrids in several areas of the lower and mid lake areas. Look for fish at depths of 12 to 23 feet on or near the main lake humps. There has also been some topwater action early and late in the day as they bust shad so keep your eyes open and watch for the birds diving as the fish push the shad to the surface. Hawg Sticks and Pop R's are a good bet for the schoolers.

Post spawn largemouth and spotted bass have also taken advantage of the feed the current offers. Main lake points that the current breaks over fished 3 to 10 feet deep with topwaters early, and red shad or blue flake plastics mid day are producing some nice fish.

We had an awesome holiday weekend at Sterett Creek Marina and look forward to making your Truman Lake visit a great experience forv the rest of the season!!! See ya on the water!!!!
