Truman Lake Fishing Report

Fishing Report 6-7-2017

By Steve Blake

Current water level is 717 and falling water surface temp is 72 degrees.

Lake level is 717 and dropping close to a half a foot a day which has created a lot of current making the white bass and hybrid bite on the humps and current breaks the best fishing this week. Best baits have been the 4 inch chartreuse sassy shad fished on a 3/4 ounce Bob Bates jig head slow rolled near the bottom in 18 to 24 feet of water for the hybrids. Best areas have been on the lower lake near the dam, the lower Pomme Arm, and the KK Island Area. Hybrids have been running 5 to 10 pounds in size. The bigger white bass are also hitting the sassy shad and the chartreuse Bob Bates spoon 1/2 to 3/4 ounce size in the same areas. There has also been some activity early and late in the day on top but that has been very limited.

The crappie bite has picked up some in the hedges and cedars on the main lake flats as more and more cover is revealed with the falling water. Minnows on the long pole fished 6 to 15 feet deep depending on the day are the best bet in the trees. The brush piles in 15 to 20 feet of water are also starting to give up some crappie with minnows and bring lots of bait as there are a lot of small crappie to weed thru in most areas. The Berry Bend Area in the Osage Arm, and the upper Grand River have been the best areas for the long pole bite, while the brush piles near the dam and Sterett Creek have been best this week.

Large mouth are still best on the main lake points with top water early in the flooded bushes, then later in the day red shad plastic worms out in 8 to 15 feet of water on the same points.

Cats this week have been best on jugs set 10 to 15 feet deep bated with perch on the main lake flats near the dam. Set jugs out in 15 to 20 feet of water. We have seen several fish over the slot this week.

That is it for this week see ya on the lake!!!!
