Truman Lake Fishing Report

Fishing Report 8-10-2017

By Steve Blake

Current water level is 710.57 and water surface temp is 80 degrees.

Well the recent big rains have raised the lake about 4 feet, but the water on the lower lake remains clear. The upper end of the lake is stained to muddy so best action has been the lower lake.

The high water has a ton of green bushes and grass flooded on the shoreline and the large mouth have pulled up into this cover to feed. Bass are scattered so get on the trolling motor and cover water with buzz baits, bladed jigs, and spinner baits. Best colors have been white and chartreuse.

The high water has covered the good stumps in most areas so we have gone back to fishing the brush piles that are on the main lake flats in 8 to 17 feet of water with minnows. There are big schools of crappie in some piles, but there are also a lot of small fish that you have to weed thru to get the better crappie so take plenty of minnows. We have averaged going thru 2 to 3 scoops of minnows each day to take limits for three anglers. Bites have been very light and you have to wait for the crappie to put downward pressure on the rod tip or you will miss them. Seems that the bigger crappie are the lightest bites.

Cats continue to be good. The backs of the creeks are good for channel cats with night crawlers on the bottom , while the blues are on the main lake flats in 10 to 15 feet of water with cut shad and perch the best bait.

White bass and hybrids have come on some with the dam running again. Look for them on the humps in 15 to 20 feet of water with the big sassy shad slow rolled on the bottom best for hybrids, and the half ounce silver flash Bob Bates spoon jigged off the bottom for the white bass.

See ya at Sterett Creek Marina!!!
