Fishing Report 1-11-17

By Steve BlakeWater level is still right at 705 and water surface temp is 38 degrees. Well not much to report on the fishing this week as the severe cold had about two thirds of the lake iced over, and after the warm up the winds hit 40 to 50 miles per hour for two days straight. Not safe conditions to be on the water. As I have said before as in m...

By Steve BlakeLake level is 705.43 and water surface temp is 39 degrees. Well looks like mother nature has decided to have a cold heart again this week, but next week looks to be in the mid 40's to mid 50's so it will be bearable and enjoyable to do some fishing. I got to hit the water a couple of days this past week for crappie and bass and would ...

Fishing Report 12-28-16

By Steve BlakeCurrent water level is 705.23 and water surface temp is 41 degrees. The warmer than normal temps and sunshine made for some great days to fish this week. I guided three days this week and the fishing pressure in the dam area has really slowed down the crappie bite. Yesterday there literally was not a single brushpile within three mile...

Fishing Report 12-22-16

By Steve BlakeCurrent water level is 705.3 and surface water temp is 38 degrees. Well I am unable to update this week because we are froze in at the marina. The marina itself is ice free but the ice outside the marina perimeter is all the way to the point. So can't get my boat to the main lake darn it!. With temps in the 50 to 60 degree range...

Fishing Report 10-27-16

By Steve BlakeCurrent water level is 707.78 and water surface temp at the dam is 66 degrees. With the falling water temps and the falling water levels patterns have changed this week for almost all species. We have had to downsize baits on all species to have success. They are still running water at the dam on a daily basis with the exception that ...

Fishing Report 10-20-16

By Steve BlakeCurrent water level is 710.36 and water surface temp is 67 degrees. As the lake is still over 4 feet high they are running water at the dam daily which has the white bass and hybrid bite on the weir going strong. The white bass are best on 1/2 ounce or 1 ounce spoons from Bob Bates in chrome or white with flash. The hybrids have been b...

Fishing Report 10-13-16

Current water level is 710.25 and water surface temp at the dam is 70 degrees. The recent rains have the lake 4 feet above normal pool and they are running water at the dam almost 24 7. This is a good thing if you are angling for large mouth, white bass, and hybrids. However the crappie and catfish bite with the rapidly rising water levels have slo...

The cooler water has the shad moving to shallower water and the fish have followed to feed up for the coming fall. Fishing Report 9-15-2016

Current lake level is 708.90 and rising surface water temp is 77 degrees. Withe the recent rains and the rise in water level they have been generating power at the dam usually in the afternoons after 12. That generation has the whites and hybrids biting on the weir both Bob Bates 1/2 ounce and 1 ounce spoons in chrome or white are taking fish jigge...

Fishing Report 9-7-2016

Current water level is 705.24 and the water surface temp at the dam is 78 degrees. With the lack of power generation at the dam for several days the stable conditions have improved fishing. I would say the hottest bite has been for crappie with the average size of keepers running 10 to 11 inches. It is still a bite for the crappie where you have to...

Fishing report 8-16-2016

Current lake level is 705.40 and water surface temp at the dam is 82 degrees.

There has been a lot going on this week with a rapid drop in the lake level, and the cooler air temps. Lake level has fallen more than 2 feet in a short period of time and is now below normal pool which is a good thing for crappie and bass anglers. Stumps, fence rows and old ditches with cover that have not been visible all year are now exposed for fisherman. These areas have had virtually no fishing pressure all year and are ripe for the picking all over the lake. Two days this week we have been able to catch crappie on stumps along one of these ditches that runs thru a flat in very shallow water. We long poled the stumps and drops of the ditch channel with minnows and took fish consistenly 3 to 7 feet deep in water that was 4 to 11 feet deep. I am hearing the same type of reports from anglers all over the lake. You just have to look for that cover at the right depth that has just been recetnly exposed doe to the falling water.

With the lower lake level generation at the dam has dropped way off so that the current bite for the whites and hybrids at the dam has slowed. That being said the schooling activity is still going on early and late in the day for both species. Best areas have been from Sterett Creek to the Cemetery to the dam, and at KK Island. Look for the surfacing fish the first and last hours of daylight on bright sunny days, and all day long on cloudy days. The whites are hitting best on a 1/2 ounce Bob Bates spoon cast into the surfacing fish and retrieved rapidly back thru the school. A 4 inch white sassy shad on a 3/4 ounce head retrieved the same way has worked best for the hybrids.

Largemouth bite has been slow but there are some fish to be taken on main lake points early and late in the day on shad colored Pop R's and Zara Spooks. During the day a variety of plastics Texas rigged and fished 8 to 15 feet deep SLOWWWWWWWWWWWW on the points is best.

No report on cats this week.

If you can you need to hit Truman this week to get in on some of the great long pole action for crappie, and surface activity for the whites and hybrids.

See ya at Sterett Creek Marina!!!!

fishing report 8-8-2016

Current water level is 706.50 and water surface temp is 83 degrees. Not much change to lake level or conditions in the last week so go with the info on the previous fishing report post as the patterns and techniques have not changed this week. One thing I would like to explain further is that the surfacing white bass can come at any time whether they are running water or not. Look for this action near the dam and KK Island early and late in the day and follow the hints in the previous report. The hybrids at the dam on the other hand are completely dependent on the water running at the dam and the more water they run the better the bite. If the y are not running water which they usually do not on the weekend then the hybrid bite will be poor. There you go stick with the previous report and if patterns change I will update. See ya at Sterett Creek Marina!!!

Fishing Report Update - 4-15-16

The Spawn is On!!

I'm filling in for Steve who is on his way to the Charger tournament down at that other lake next to us! Steve's trip this morning limited everyone out in just 3 hours on bass and crappie. Steve says you'll find both the crappie and bass on the banks half way back in the creeks 12'-18' deep in 2 foot of water at the steeper banks where the water is at 61 degrees. The water is still muddy so Steve says you need to dip your line.rather than cast and go slow down the bank. Crappie were hitting on black/char jigs and the bass are hitting on black/blue jig on char spinner bait, single spinner.
See you at Sterett Creek!!
