Truman Lake Fishing Report

Fishing Report 1-4-2017

By Steve Blake

Lake level is 705.43 and water surface temp is 39 degrees.

Well looks like mother nature has decided to have a cold heart again this week, but next week looks to be in the mid 40's to mid 50's so it will be bearable and enjoyable to do some fishing.

I got to hit the water a couple of days this past week for crappie and bass and would say it was not great, but it was not awful either. I fished the upper end of the lake this week and was able to find some nice crappie 10 to 15 feet deep at the mouths of the creeks on drop offs where the river channel cut across the mouth of the creek up the Tebo Arm. Best color was chartreuse and pink. We still caught a lot of smaller fish but did come away with a nice mess of keepers in the 10 to 12 inch size range. They are schooled very tight and it takes some effort to find them but once you do they are eager to bite. You just have to sort thru the little ones. Have heard reports of the same pattern on the upper Grand, and Pomme Arms also. We are vertical fishing dropping the jig straight down and giving it veryyyyy little action to get bites. If you can find a concentration of shad there will be crappie in the area.

I also got to bass fish a couple of hours this week before the wind blew us off the lake and found fish on shad and clown colored jerkbaits off main lake and secondary points taking 4 keepers to 3 pounds and 3 small bass on the twitch and pause retrieve. I was in the dam area for these.

Getting reports of some good blue cat fishing this week. Cut shad in 25 to 35 feet of water on the edges of the river channels near the dam seems to be the best bet for blues.

Well that is about all I got this week the weather and wind did not allow much time on the water this week but starting next Monday it looks like we have a week to ten day window when there will be some good days to be on the water. See you there!!!

Happy New Year 2017
