Truman Lake Fishing Report

Fishing Report 10-3-16

Current water level is 707.50 and water surface temp at the dam id 75 degrees.

With the cooler weather conditions and fishing are changing fast. The cooler water has the shad moving to shallower water and the fish have followed to feed up for the coming fall.

While we are just starting to see the shallow bite take off it should continue to improve in the coming days.

Crappie seem to be making their move to the mouths of the creeks and coves and should continue to move farther back in the coming days. Best areas this week have been the main lake flats near the mouths of the creeks and coves where you can find stump rows or brush piles that are in 8 to 15 feet of water. When you find the fish they are bunched up so if you hit a couple slow down and work that cover thoroughly. The fish are hanging right at the top of the cover and both minnows and jigs have produced equally well this week. We are still having to weed thru a lot of small fish to catch the better size crappie but the good ones are there you just have to be patient. Understand this is not cover that is visible above the waters surface but rather cover that only comes up a foot to 3 feet above the bottom. This type of cover is holding the best numbers and size of crappie. You have to spend some time on the graph to locate it but if you do it will pay off!!!! As usual the bite is very very very subtle so pay attention!!!!

White and hybrids bass seem to be everywhere this week as some fish have moved to the points in very shallow water and can be caught on small top-waters, small rattletraps, and in line spinners like the 1/4 ounce Rostertail. Best colors are chrome or white that imitate the shad they are feeding on. Also there are still a lot of fish on the humps and at the weir on the days when they are running water. Best baits for these have been spoons jigged on the bottom at depths of 12 to 22 feet of water. Again spend some time behind the graph to find the schools and when you do they are e3ager to bite.

Large mouth have been best also in the shallows working the points at the mouths of the coves and creeks to half way back with small top-waters and buzz-baits. Just keep the trolling motor down and cover as much water as possible. Chrome colored top-waters and white or black buzz-baits have worked the best. The Pomme has been the best arm for green fish.

No reports on cats this week.

Well there you have it that great fall bite in the shallows is just beginning and will only get better for the rest of October and most of November. For my regular customers that look forward to these fall trips I am booking up fast so if you want to get ion on the action call me soon before my schedule fills up.

See ya at Sterett Creek Marina!!!
