Sterett Creek Marina - Truman Lake

Truman Lake Fishing Report

Fishing Report 11-4-16

By Steve Blake

Current water level is 706.48 and water surface temp at the dam is 66 degrees.

With the marina closing for the season on November 1st we have had a great year to look back on. Ken and Cathy I think have exceeded all expectations with the diligent work they have done to improve the Sterett Creek Marina experience.

Although the marina is closed for the season the fishing has not shut down. In fact with the temps forecast to be much higher than normal for the next six weeks and the current bite for several species being at a peak I feel that the best fishing of the year is coming on Truman.

The annual shallow water fall feed up that we all wait for every year is in full swing and should stay strong for several weeks to come. Fishing this week for white bass and hybrids has been amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!! It seems that every where you want to go on Truman they are eager to blast a bait. Working from one flat main lake chunk rock point to another this week we have literally had several 100 plus fish days on whites and hybrids. The fish are holding very shallow from 1 to three feet deep on the points and if you cover enough water you are gonna find them. Points that have the wind blowing into them are the best bet. We have taken these fish on a wide variety of baits from buzz baits and spinner baits to in line spinners like the Rooster Tail and Shyster to my favorite the Pop R. Nothing beats a day on the water where you can produce 100 plus blowups on a top water bait!!!!!! Think shad colors white for spinners, chrome, blue and chrome, and black and chrome for top waters. You can expect white bass from 1 to 2 pounds and can catch enough to weed out a nice limit of two pound fish in short order. The hybrids have been running 3 to 12 pounds and are right in with the whites.

In fishing for the whites and hybrids we have also taken several nice large mouth and Kentucky bass in the two to four pound range. Pop R's and white spinner baits have been best for the green fish and they seem to be more plentiful in the backs of the creeks and coves but still on the windy points.

The crappie bite has not been as awesome as the rest this week but there are there to be caught if you have a little patience and fish the bluffs. The bare rock bluffs void of timber have been best. We are dropping a 1/4 ounce jig to the bottom in 15 to 25 feet of water lifting it a foot off the bottom and easing along the bluffs as SLOWWWWWWW as possible so the jig stays down in the strike zone. Best colors have been pink and white, and black and chartreuse.

I have several openings for guide trips for the coming week so if you would like to get in on some awesome top water fishing give me a call at 660-525-0692 and have a great day of fishing. I am also taking bookings for the Winter Crappie Special that runs December thru February.

That's it for this week see ya on the lake!!!!!!

The Ending of Another Great Season!!
