Truman Lake Fishing Report

Fishing Report 12-26-2018

By Steve Blake

My apologies for the last two weeks not filing a report took a little break for the holidays.

Current water level is 707.30 and water surface temp is 42 degrees.

Fishing has been a little up and down over the past week. Crappie one day bite like crazy and limits for all in a couple of hours, while on other days it takes four to five hours. Best pattern for me has been to find schools of fish and sit on them being patient. Best spots have been some kind of brush on the main river channel on the lower lake where the top of the brush is 14 to 18 feet down. We have been fishing SWARM jigs on a 1/4 ounce Bob Bates winter jig head dropped to just above the top of the cover. Best colors have been char and black, and brown and orange. A dead stick approach has produced the greatest number of bites for the better size fish. Literally holding the rod dead still and waiting for the bite. We are using a 9 foot Crappie Max pro series rod( one of the most sensitive rods on the market) spooled with 8 lb Berkley Big game moss green line. This rig really helps you feel those light strikes. keeper fish are running in the 10 to 11 inch size on average on the lower lake with and occasional hog as a bonus. On the better days you will weed thru the little fish.

Bass fishing is fair with the suspending jerk bait still the best bet. Twitch twitch pause retrieve on the steeper chunk rock main lake and secondary points. The water is stained so bright colors are best. Also hit a few fish slow rolling a red lipless crank bait in these same areas.

Blue cats are still doing well on cut shad but the last week or so seeing a lot of fish in the 3 to 4 pound size and fewer big fish. Fish are in the main channels in 30 to 35 feet of water.

The crew at Sterett Creek Marina has been at it hard all winter making improvements to all facets of Sterett Creek. 2019 will see the Sterett Creek Experience get even better!!!!!!

Hope everyone had a good Christmas I will see ya on the lake!!!
