Truman Lake Fishing Report

Fishing report 3-10-2018

By Steve Blake

Current water level is 707.80 and water surface temp at the dam is 42 degrees.

It has been a great week for crappie as they have begun to migrate to the mouths of the major creeks and stack up staging for the spawn.

We took all of our crappie 14 to 18 feet deep half way back in the major creeks one poling Swarm jigs 6 inches to a foot off the bottom. Had to have

shad in the creek. Char combinations working best with very little action on the jig. Char and pink, char and white, and char and blue working best.

Work the edges of the creek channel drops SLOWWWW and the bite is super soft. If you pull into a major creek work back to where you see a number of gulls working shad on the surface. No gulls no shad no fish move on. The shad will show up in big balls and the crappie are on the bottom under them. Upper Grand arm and Osage arms in water where you can see a jig down 3 to 6 inches are the producing crappie. Some fish in these areas are 3 to 6 feet deep on the flats in 5 to 10 feet of water. Like I said they are moving to stage for the spawn so upper lake fish go shallow sooner with warmer water temps.

Still getting good reports of big blue cats on cut shad both on Truman and LOZ fishing windblown flats in 4 to 10 feet of water.

Did not get a chance to fish largemouth this week too busy with crappie trips but I feel the jerkbait is still the way to go on main lake and secondary chunck rock points.

Several walleye being caught below Truman dam on jigs fished on the bottom in 14 to 20 feet of water. One 31 inch fish caught on Friday.

After the next two days of cooler weather we have a warmup coming and fishing is sure to get even better.

See ya at Sterett Creek Marina!!!!
