Truman Lake Fishing Report

Fishing Report 3-9-2019

By Steve Blake

Well it looks like winter has finally started to fade and Spring is just around the corner. Current water level is 707.46 and water surface temp is 38 degrees and will increase with the warmer temps this week.

Catfish have been slow and running small but the crappie bite has been awesome when the weather allows you to get on the water. I am hearing reports all over Truman of a great crappie bite. From spider rigging, to one pole jigging, to tight-line, minnows all are working well. In the Sterett Creek Area near the dam we are finding the crappie 20 to 25 feet deep in 25 to 35 feet of water in the guts of the deeper coves feeding on shad balls. We are fishing the 1/4 ounce Bob Bates pink jig head rigged with Swarm Jigs right at the top of the shad balls. Best colors have been char and white and pink and white. Idle the middle of the deeper coves and watch your graph for the big almost solid shad balls. Drop a jig to the top of the shad and give it very little action, just slight twitches every four or five seconds. Crappie are running on average 10 to 12 inches with a lot of little fish mixed in. It is good action after a winter of cabin fever, LOL!

With the water temps sure to rise some this week the bass should start up on the jerk bait bite that Truman is famous for in March. Water is a bit off color so clown would be my choice. Starting to see a few walleye come in below the dam.

Looks like Sunday, Monday , and Thursday will be the best weather days to get in on the action. I have a few days open gimme a call and let's get rid of Old Man Winter!!!!! See ya on the water.
