Current lake level is 717.19 and water surface temp
at the dam s 65 degrees.
Well despite the inclement weather we continue to
have great fishing for all species.
Crappie are in their summer pattern all over the
lake with fish coming from the brushpiles in 10 to 20 feet of water from 8 to 15
feet deep on minnows and we are also seeing nice limits of crappie all over the
lake coming suspended in the timber on minnows at depths of 4 to 12 feet. One
hint the murky water fish are much shallower in the trees than those fish in the
clearer arms of the lake. Best action has been in the Grand and Tebo arms for
suspended crappie.
Largemouth have also moved to their summer haunts
and the best action right now has been 2 to 8 feet deep on the main lake and
secondary points. In the murky water areas spinnerbaits shallow on the points
have been the best bet while in the clearer water 10 inch red shad power worms
Texas rigged and fished 4 to 8 feet deep are the best baits.
Blues amd channel cats are coming on rod and reel,
jugs, and trotlines baited with cut shad on the flats in the backs of the major
creek arms in 3 to 8 feet of water. This bite has been very
good.
The white bass and hybrids have finally fired up a
bit on the humps and on the weir wall in front of the dam but with the murky
water you really have to slow down to produce strikes. We have taken several
nice whites and hybrids this week vertical jigging a 1/4 ounce jig chartruse and
orange in color in front of the dam and on the humps in 15 to 18 feet of water.
Drop the jig to the bottom pick it up about a foot and just deadstick it to
produce strikes. There are alot of small white bass but if you are patient the
big hybrid strikes and an occasional walleye will come. We have also taken
some nice whites and hybrids in these areas jigging a 3/4 ounce chartruse spoon
off the bottom at the ame depths but you really have to slow down your jigging
motion to produce strikes. Slowly raise the spoon the slowly feel it back to the
bottom. 98 percent of strikes will come on the slow fall. 2 pound whites and
hybrids in the 3 to 10 pound range have been taken this week.
The weather is supposed to clear and warm up for
the weekend so come on down and get in on the action.
See ya at Sterett Creek Marina!!!
