Truman Lake Fishing Report

Fishing Report 7-23-2019

By Steve Blake

Current water level is 727.92 and water temp is 78 degrees. Discharge thru turbines is 25,000 cfs, and discharge thru spillway is 20,000 cfs. (Predicted to continue at total of 45,000 for the next couple of days then increase to 50,000)

Well the lake is still dropping despite the rain this week. Whether or not the drop continues depends on the water flow we get from the north over the next few days. We are all hopeful that late this week some positive things happen. Number one Ken and Cathy are hoping to get the road into main parking lot open by the weekend. Number two we are hopeful that the Corps will open up the Shawnee Bend high water ramp. Again depends on the inflow we get from the north this week.

Fishing has begun to get better as the water recedes with some nice crappie being taken in 12 to 18 feet of water 6 to 12 feet deep in the flooded bushes on minnows; willows, hedges and cedars are best. Be patient and cover a lot of water till you hit the right area, they seem to be bunched up in some areas. Look for flats with small points of cover.

Bass have been good on jig and pig, and spinner baits on points and gaps with current. Also top waters in the park areas that were mowed before the flooding.

Whites and hybrids have started to feed on new hatch on the surface early and late in the day. This should get better as the water continues to fall. Keep your eyes open early and late or on cloudy days for this.

Cats still good on jugs and rod and reel on the flats in 8 to 12 feet of water on cut shad and perch. Run jugs often as fish are quick to die after hooked.

Looks to be great weather this week. See ya at Sterett Creek Marina!!!!!!!
