Truman Lake Fishing Report

Fishing Report 9-20-2017

By Steve Blake

Current water level is 706.60 and water surface temp is 74 degrees.

Well fishing this week continues to be exceptional with a fair to excellent bite for most all species.

Crappie are still good in brush piles that are in 9 to 17 feet of water fishing minnows right at the top of the brush. Not all piles are good but if you find the right one they are stacked up. The size has really improved over the past two weeks we are seeing more fish in the 11 to 13 inch size range on average. Crappie also continue to be good on the timbered flats in the lower lake area also fishing minnows on long poles in the trees down 8 to 15 feet in 10 to 20 feet of water. With the water nearly back to normal pool there is a ton of cover now becoming visible that has not been pressured all summer. JUST SAYING!!!!

White bass and hybrid fishing has been very good this week on the humps with 1/2 ounce Bob Bates spoons jigged off the bottom in 10 to 18 feet of water. Size has ranged from a pound to 2 pounds on the whites. hybrids are best at the dam on the weir wall with 3/4 oz. jig heads rigged with 4 inch white or chartreuse sassy shads. Hybrids from 3 to 8 pounds average.

Best large mouth bite has been on top waters on main lake and secondary points. Pop R's and Whoppers Ploppers in chrome or whit have worked well. Not a lot of bites but quality fish.

Catfish on cut shad fished on the bottom at the dam in 15 to 30 feet of water is also good with both blues and channels being caught.

We have some warm stable weather, and stable water conditions for at least the next week so fishing should stay strong. That's about it for this week see ya at beautiful Sterett Creek Marina!!!
