Truman Lake Fishing Report

Fishing Report 9-26-2018

By Steve Blake

Current water level is 706.90 and water surface temp is 74 degrees.

That water surface temp is a very important clue as to what is on the way. The fall feed up is starting. As the water temp gets closer to the 70 degree mark fish begin moving to their fall feeding patterns.

Crappie on the upper end of Truman are beginning to move shallow. Long poling with both minnows and jigs around cover in 4 to 10 feet of water is producing numbers and size. On the lower lake crappie are somewhat scattered as they move to fall patterns. There are still fish on the brushpiles and sunken fence rows in 12 to 18 feet of water fishing minnows just off the bottom but the bite is slower than in previous weeks. There are also some crappie moving to the backs of the major creeks on the lower lake in the area within 3 to 5 miles of the dam. Look for these fish with Swarm Jigs in 6 to 10 feet of water on the trees. Char and pink has been good.

Bass are starting to move to the backs of the creeks also with the cooler water temps. Buzzbaits, spinner baits, and topwaters beating the banks are producing early and late in the day. At mid day black and blue jig is working best.

While we are still taking some white bass and hybrids on the weir and the humps when they are running water and there are some whites and hybrids with the cooler temps that have moved shallow. Look for fist size chunk rock flats and points with the wind blowing in in 1 to 4 feet of water. Typical fall pattern. Small in line spinners , small rattle baits, and small Pop R,s will all produce. This bite will continue to get better and better in the weeks to come with cooler water temps.

Blue cats are still strong on both jugs and rod and reel in the Sterett Creek Area fishing cut shad or perch in 12 to 18 feet of water. Lots of fish in the 3 to 8 pound range. They are bunched up so move till you find a few and stick with that area.

I still have a few openings for the white bass and hybrid fall bite in October, November, and December. It is going to be a great bite this year so give me a call to get in on the action at 660-525-0692.

Had a great time with over 200 good folks at the Sterett Creek picnic last week for all the annual slip holders and seasonal campers - thank you Ken and Cathy!!!! See ya all at Sterett Creek Marina!!!!
